What you see
Replies appear in the phone’s Messages app but not in SMSKit.
Why it happens
RECEIVE_SMS may be denied. Or the reply arrived as RCS chat; other apps cannot read RCS messages.
What SMSKit needs and why
RECEIVE_SMS lets the gateway receive SMS replies. It does not grant access to RCS chats.
Permissions referenceHow to fix it
- Open SMSKit App info > Permissions and grant SMS access. Follow restricted-settings help if Android blocks it.
- On the gateway phone, open Google Messages > profile > Messages settings > RCS chats and turn RCS chats off. In Samsung Messages, search its settings for Chat settings and turn chat features off. Labels vary.
- Turning RCS off removes RCS chat features on this phone. Replies must arrive as carrier SMS and carrier charges can apply. You can restore RCS from the same setting, but SMSKit will still not receive RCS chats.
- Send a new SMS reply to test the route. Existing RCS messages do not become SMS.
