What you see
App was denied access or Restricted setting when you try to allow SMS.
Why it happens
Android 15 and newer restrict SMS permissions for apps installed from a browser, messaging app or file manager. This is separate from Play Protect; turning scanning off does not change it.
What SMSKit needs and why
SEND_SMS and RECEIVE_SMS support the gateway. READ_SMS supports the optional archive. Without the relevant grant, that function cannot use phone SMS.
Permissions referenceHow to fix it
- In SMSKit, try to allow SMS once so Android registers the block.
- Open Android Settings > Apps > SMSKit > App info. You can search Settings for SMSKit.
- Open the ⋮ menu, tap Allow restricted settings if present, and confirm with your PIN or fingerprint.
- Open Permissions > SMS > Allow, then return to SMSKit.
- If Allow restricted settings is missing, try the SMS permission in SMSKit once more, then reopen App info. If it is still missing, contact support.
